Exactly.

Then you wouldn't want a Pre-Runner. The Taco you pictured is a trail truck/rock crawler, not a Pre-Runner.

A Pre-runner is a vehicle modified for off-road driving and is still road legal.

The true definition of "Pre-runner" is debated. I've read sources that claim it's just any truck modified for off-road use while still being road-legal. That might be too broad though, I don't know.

Either way, I want to troll people in a modified Ridgeline.

Honestly a truck would be my 3rd or 4th vehicle, but hot damn, I would certainly not say no these things.

Pre-runner's are set up for desert racing and such. Usually of the 2WD variety. Trail rigs can also be street legal, but are set up very differently, solid axles(usually), lower gears, bigger tires, more trail armor, etc. Pre-runners are set up for taking rough terrain at high speed, while vehicles like the pictured Tacoma are designed for low speed and steep climbing.

I hope this doesn't sound condescending, but I'm fully aware of the mechanical components that constitute a crawler or a trophy truck. My reason in using the word "Prerunner" is based off several accounts of reading the definition of such being "Any truck modified to go off-road and is still road-legal."

I make a street legal trophy truck. Kinda like a prerunner, but fully tube chassis with a body lovely based off a real truck.

Actually the term comes from the trucks that Pre-Run the races for drivers, so they don't have to damage their actual trucks. http://www.trucktimesmagazine.com/what-is-a-prer…

Pre-runners are trucks that are built to pre-run desert racing courses. Most races that allow pre-running don't allow competitors to do it in their race trucks and stipulate that all vehicles used to pre-run must be street legal. So competitors build pre-runners that allow them to do relatively high speed runs through the course that they will later be driving in their race rigs.
